Almond Milk is the natural choice for vegans and people with lactose allergies. Almond Milk with Whey Protein provides a healthy alternative, containing 50% fewer calories than dairy milk.

Almond milk is one of an ever-growing line of non-dairy alternatives to traditional cow’s milk.  Consumers have many options as dairy alternatives, including oat milk, soy milk, almond milk, rice milk, flax milk, hemp milk, and coconut milk hybrids. Oh, and don’t forget hazelnut milk and even cashew nut milk.

However, Almond Milk is naturally low in Protein (1g compared to 8g in a glass of Cow Milk, and to 6g of Protein in an ounce of actual almonds) and lacks the nutrients, calcium, and fiber found in Almonds. That’s because Almond Milk is mostly water, with the nutrient-dense Almonds strained out in the manufacturing process. In Short, Almond Milk contains very little of the nutritional values found in natural Almonds. In most cases, Almond Milk is so heavily processed that the food is left with more additives and more calories, fat, and sugars than the actual almonds it supposedly comes from.

It is important to reiterate that Almond Milk contains very little of the benefits of Whole Almonds.  For Example, Silk and Almond Breeze are both the target of a class-action lawsuit claiming that they only contain 2% almonds. Unfortunately, labeling requirements in the USA allow manufacturers to withhold the percentage of almonds in the beverage.  We were unable to find Almond percentages for any USA brands. However, one brand’s exported product (Almond Breeze) did show the percentage at 2%.  The highest percentage we were able to find is an Australian brand (Pure Harvest) at 10%.

If you like the flavor of Almond Milk, then drink it and use Almond Milk with Whey Protein (we recommend unflavored Organic Almond Milk).  However, read the labels carefully and steer away from the ones that are heavily sweetened or contain additives, emulsifiers, and lecithin or artificial flavorings.
